Holistic Health

What Is Holistic Health?

Holistic Health can be defined as a balanced approach to life. Rather than focusing on illness or on specific parts of the body as in the traditional medical model. The Holistic approach to Health considers the whole person and how he or she interacts with all the dimension that make up a “healthy” person. Holistic health emphasizes the connection of mind, body and the persons spirit and also the environment. The five dimensions of health which when taken together make up a person’s Holistic Health are:

· Mental Health

· Emotional Health

· Physical Health

· Social Health

· Spiritual Health

Some ways of maintaining your good health holistically:

Mental Health Problems

Hmmm! Learning to deal with problems is not always as easy as saying it! Remember if you have a problem chances are there are others with the same issues, seek professional help through the help lines or see you friendly GP for advice. You are not alone, just speaking with someone always helps!

Physical Health

Have adequate and regular exercise at least 3 times per week!

Easy or isn’t it? Life keeps getting in the way somehow? Well don’t beat yourself up over it! You don’t have to become a gym junkie, a short walk in the fresh air and getting in touch with nature is the best thing for your body and self.

Make sure you have enough rest and get some sleep at least 6 to 8 hours each night too! Remember that sleep is natures healing time for our bodies! So take some natural medicine and sleep!

Eat balanced meals and if possible, avoid too much junk food, alcohol and caffeine. Remember what we put in our mouths can heal or hurt so be careful with what you eat and drink!

Have a regular Bowen Therapy, Reiki and medical check-ups. Remember - Prevention is always better than Cure!

Social Health

Relationships with family, friends, and other people in your community can at times be a challenge or a blessing!

I was advised when as a child always to treat others as you would like to be treated yourself, in other words, “Be kind to others and yourself”. It’s not always easy to maintain relationships with others, however, always try to be kind!

If you find yourself with relationship issues, please seek assistance it’s always better to speak with someone. Remember a problem shared is a problem halved!

Spiritual Health

Your Spirit is what cannot be defined as part of your body or as part of your mind rather your spiritual health is part of your all. Whether you choose to believe in a higher being or not, your holistic health needs both your body and mind in balance.

Your personal religious beliefs are a component of your spiritual health, not a substitute for all of it. By improving your spiritual life you can contribute to your healing process.

Above all your spiritual health is achieved when you feel at peace with life.
